Why Study Business at CIT

27 May, 2020

The combination of academic challenge and practical focus makes the prospect of studying business highly appealing for those attracted to the interactive, challenging and supportive learning environment offered by CIT.

Business at CIT is a popular choice for Leaving Certificate students for the following reasons:

  • Students will graduate with a set of transferable key skills essential for business. They will develop essential technical skills in key business disciplines such as Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Accounting, International Business, Marketing, and Management.
  • Business graduates will also develop a set of generic skills which they can apply throughout their working lives in any career. These include: analytical ability; research skills; communication and presentation skills; goal setting; leadership skills; numeracy; problem-solving; team work; intercultural competence, and time management.
  • All programmes are developed in partnership with enterprise and the professions, and incorporate a mandatory work placement component.
  • Key focus on engagement with the business community through the integration of authentic assessment approaches in teaching and learning with our academic staff awarded Best Business Collaboration at the National Education Awards in 2020. Students engage with micro, SME and large businesses on live case work which is a feature of the student experience.
  • Our programmes are accredited by the professional bodies and our graduates enjoy unsurpassed exemptions from the professional examinations of the key professional associations.
  • Access to an award winning entrepreneurship education ecosystem where students can develop their entrepreneurial and creativity skills as part of their curriculum as well as through a range of extracurricular activities such as enterprise societies, competitions and start up programmes through CIT’s on–campus incubator, the Rubicon Centre.
  • Opportunity to build international networks and experience through a growing and diverse number of international students at CIT or through international educational exchange, work placement or study aboard programmes. CIT students can spend one or two semesters on an Erasmus exchange at one of CIT’s 70+ partner institutions abroad.
  • CIT Business graduates go on to work in many different sectors. More obvious careers with a business degree include roles in accounting and finance departments. Other sectors with high demand for business graduates include marketing and digital marketing, IT, human resources and supply chain management. The diversity and plenitude of careers with a business degree underlies the subject’s appeal for many students.
  • A qualification in business is a great investment for students’ future career and CIT provides a flexible and accessible portfolio of courses available through the CAO as follows:
